How I Work in Individual Therapy | Relational Resonance

Individual therapy

How I work in individual therapy

I offer a calm, thoughtful space to help you understand what has become difficult, especially when you appear to be coping while privately feeling anxious, low, stuck or unsure of yourself.

My role is to support you by giving time to what is happening now, noticing patterns that may have formed in earlier relationships and making room for feelings that have been hard to put into words. The sections below introduce some of the difficulties I can help with, from anxiety, self-criticism and work pressure to relationship loss, family patterns, identity and belonging.

Your experience may not fit neatly under one heading, and more than one section may feel familiar. These pages offer starting points rather than a complete list of what we can think about together. Begin with whichever feels closest to what you are carrying now.

When it becomes hard to feel like yourself

When your mind does not seem to let you rest

You may continue functioning outwardly while privately feeling tense, depleted, hopeless or never quite good enough.

Relationships, loss and old patterns

When the same feelings keep returning with other people

Closeness, separation, guilt and responsibility may take familiar forms, even when you are determined for things to be different.

Identity, masculinity and belonging

When parts of you have been difficult to hold together

Race, culture, gender, masculinity and belonging can shape what feels safe to express and where you feel able to be fully yourself.

Individual therapy with relationships in mind

Understanding what you carry into the present

My individual work is relational and psychodynamic. I pay attention to what is happening now, the patterns that may have formed in earlier relationships and what becomes easier or harder to say between us.

My training at Tavistock Relationships has given me a particular interest in how partners, parents, family, culture and other relationships shape our sense of who we are. I do not rush to give you a label or a neat explanation. We can stay curious about what has become familiar and what might begin to feel different.

When you feel ready

You do not need to have everything worked out or know exactly what to say. A few words about what has brought you here are enough to begin.
