Online Couples Therapy Across the UK

More connected than ever. Not always to each other.

Online couples therapy gives you a place to slow things down and look at what keeps happening between you. You may have arrived here searching for online couples counselling or relationship counselling. I use the word therapy because it reflects how I work, but these terms often describe the same hope: understanding what has happened between you and what might need to change.

I work online with couples across the UK.

What may have brought you here

When something between you keeps getting stuck

You may still care deeply about each other and find yourselves repeating something neither of you knows how to change.

You might be looking for online couples counselling because the same arguments keep returning, one of you has become harder to reach, trust has been damaged, or intimacy has changed. Sometimes there has been a clear rupture. At other times it is harder to say what has gone wrong. You simply know the relationship no longer feels as close, safe or easy as it once did.

Online relationship counselling gives you somewhere to look more carefully at what is happening between you, without needing to live near my practice in North London.

Repeated arguments

The subject changes, but the same hurt, anger or shutdown keeps returning.

Emotional distance

You can function well together and still feel lonely, unseen or hard to reach.

Sex and intimacy

Desire, affection or sexual connection may have changed, disappeared or become difficult to talk about.

Affairs and trust

A discovery, secrecy or betrayal may have changed what feels safe between you.

Parenthood and change

Having a baby, work, loss or another transition can alter the relationship in ways neither of you expected.

Uncertainty about the relationship

You may care about each other and still be unsure whether to stay, separate or make a major change.

Online marriage counselling

When married life has become more practical than close

Marriage can gradually become organised around children, money, work, caring responsibilities, family expectations and everything that needs to get done. Sex or affection may change. Resentment can build. One of you may feel alone while the other feels constantly criticised or unable to get things right. Sometimes a breach of trust or affair brings the difficulty sharply into view.

Online marriage counselling offers married couples across the UK a place to think about what has changed, what each of you has been carrying, and what you want from the marriage now. You do not need to be at breaking point, or already considering separation, to begin.

Online and in person

What is online couples therapy like compared with meeting in person?

The focus is the same. The setting changes how you arrive, how you share the room and what happens around the session.

You join from a familiar place. This can make therapy easier to fit around work, family life or distance. It also means making enough space for the relationship for fifty minutes.

Attending

Coming to a separate room can mark the session out from everyday life. The journey there also gives each of you a little time to arrive before you begin.

Privacy needs a little planning. If children are at home, it helps to choose a time when you can focus on the relationship and speak without being overheard. Headphones can help you listen privately, although they do not stop your side of the conversation being heard.

Privacy

Stepping out of home creates a clearer boundary around the conversation. You may still need to arrange childcare or travel, but once you arrive there is less competition from the practical life happening around you.

When the call ends, you are immediately back in your own space. There is no journey home to reflect or let the intensity settle. It can help to leave a little room before the next task, especially after a difficult session.

After the session

The journey away can create a natural transition. Some couples use it to talk. Others need quiet. Either can give you a little distance before returning to everyday life.

You can join from the same place or from different locations. Most couples find the conversation flows more naturally when they are together. Joining separately can still work well when distance, work or the conversation itself makes that feel easier.

Together or apart

You share the same physical room throughout the session. This can make some of the smaller moments between you easier to notice as the conversation develops.

Before you begin

Questions you might be asking

Some practical questions matter when you are deciding whether meeting online feels right for both of you.

Relationships & Digital Life

The relationship doesn’t stop when you pick up your phone.

Phones, messaging, social media and online spaces are now part of the emotional life of many relationships. They can bring closeness. They can also become places for comparison, secrecy, reassurance, fantasy and distance.

The Reading Room is where I think about some of these questions in more depth.
